Stroller safety causes endless debate about the minimum child age for jogging stroller use. Some say 6 months while certain stroller manufacturers suggest 2 – 3 months!

But we say stroller safety first! As Kerry put it: “it takes so much to get them here, so it's foolish to take uneccesary risks after they arrive.”

Things every mother should know...

Very young infants cannot hold their heads up on their own and may be at risk during bumpy rides. In addition, babies under 6 weeks of age can dehydrate very easily so it’s best not to have them out in the hot sun

Babies and very young infants must be able to lie flat in a jogging stroller, and for this reason many options ARE NOT recommended for them. (This is because many seats do not fully recline)

Since there is no hard and fast rule, you'll probably have to make a judgement call about the minimum child age for jogging stroller use.

In the end, base your decision on three factors: pediatrician's advice, commonsense, and stroller seat design.

Clearly, you should go with whatever your pediatrician recommends. If you get no guidance there, be cautious and consider the 6 month rule. 

What is the maximum child age?

Most jogging stroller manufacturers quote a maximum weight capacity that will help your decision here. However, as you know, every child is different, and height is also a factor

Around 4 years of age, many children may be too tall for the jogging stroller to still perform at a safe standard, even though they are under the weight limit. Body-length can compromise stability and make the stroller ‘tippy’ when running. So use your judgement here given your toddler’s size.
