Stroller questions asked and answered...
Responses to these stroller questions are derived from our experiences in jogging stroller use.
Of course manufacturer specifications may suggest different answers to similar stroller questions, but we prefer to rely on actual experiences - and we think you should too!
1. Can children breathe inside the rain canopy ?
Yes, there are air holes punched in the sides of rain covers which allow air to circulate freely. Also, rain covers do not completely enclose the stroller and air flows freely from spaces under the handlebar and from the bottom of the stroller.
2. Will a double jogging stroller become unbalanced if one child is larger than the other or if only one child is strapped in?
Balance is not usually a problem on smooth paved surfaces. However, on wet grass or very loose gravel, you may find the stroller may not track straight and may skew to one side as you push.
3. Can we roller-blade while we run with the baby in a stroller? We see people doing this, but we strongly recommend against it.
Frankly, we think that it's unsafe. The thing about roller-blading is that when you are about to fall, you need something to grab hold of - and that will be the stroller. Then you and baby are going to tip over. At the risk of being bossy, we DO NOT RECOMMEND IT.
4. What is the performance difference between the 16" wheel and the 20" wheel ? 16" wheel jogging strollers are excellent for running and jogging.
Many people prefer the smaller wheel because it makes the stroller easier to store (without giving up performance). However, if space is not an issue for you, consider going for the 20". They provide a wonderful glide when running on pavement (less pushing for you!), and absorb more bumps on rough surfaces (comfort for baby).
5. What is the maximum safe age for a child to ride in a jogging stroller?
Most jogging strollers can safely and comfortably carry the average child up to about 4 years of age (or 75 pounds) safely and comfortably. But you have to think about both height and weight. After 4 years of age, most kids are usually too tall to be carried safely - even though they may not weigh 75 pounds yet. A child's height affects weight distribution, and the stroller may become unbalanced if the child is too tall for it.
