What to look for...

The ideal design is a one-piece aluminium unit with welded joints, rounded surfaces, and no spaces for little hands and feet to slip through.

Watch out for rough edges and joints secured by plastic fittings.

Steel units are heavier, and less expensive than aluminium but may rust in humid or salty conditions

For serious runners, the design of the rear axle is also an important issue. Some brands have a specially designed axle to allow for a longer stride.

Welded joints and all-metal design impact the weight capacity of the stroller - i.e. the amount of the load that the stroller can carry. Models with welded metal chassis can support much higher loads than those with metal tubes and plastic joints.
